Welcome to History at Foxes Piece School
Through researching, discovering and comparing periods of our world’s history, our curriculum focuses on enabling and encouraging the children to think as historians. We focus on helping the children understand chronology, that historical events can be interpreted in different ways and that they should always ask questions, such as ‘how do we know?’, about information they are given. We place an emphasis on examining historical artefacts, primary sources; recognise and value the importance of stories in history teaching; and ensure that each lesson inspires the children to want to learn more by promoting the value of scholarship.
Our children love taking trips to local attractions, experiencing ‘wow days’, dressing up as important historical figures, and completing cross-curricular activities such as summer homework projects.
Welcome to Geography at Foxes Piece School
Geography starts from the child’s immediate environment. Through visits into the local and wider community, their world is extended through first hand experiences, building up their geographical knowledge and skills. Children will also study places around the world, how we can look after our environment and what our environment is like. In geography, we encourage children to ask as well as answer questions and offer them the opportunity to use a variety of methods to gain information. This includes maps, data, fieldtrips, photos, pictures and geographical equipment. Wherever possible, the children take part in practical activities to explore the world around them. Our children love taking part in ‘One World Day’ where they travel around the world exploring different countries and their cultures.
