During the first part of the Autumn term in Year 3, we are studying 'The Stone Age'. We will explore the history of Stone Age civilisation, famous Stone Age landmarks and the way they lived. In the second part of the term, we shall be learning about 'Raging Rivers' where we will find out about the formation of rivers, famous rivers and their location and the comparison between them.
In English lessons during the first half of term, we will be writing stories based in familiar settings. The children will be using descriptive language and techniques suitable to the genre. In the second half, the children will learn how to write persuasively.
In maths, the children will learn a range of arithmetic and problem solving skills with an initial focus on place value knowledge. Afterwards, the children will learn about the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) as well as taking part in daily practice of times table facts to build fluency and confidence.
In science, the children are learning about Forces and Magnets. Children will learn about how magnets work and explore a variety of materials. Children will also plan experiments and compare different forces.
We are completing 2 one-hour lessons of PE a week - these will be on a Wednesday and Friday. We will be studying Outside Games and Gymnastics – shape.
Thursday - Spellings given out to be practised for a test the following Thursday
Friday – Homework given out to go home
Wednesday – Homework handed in
There is an expectation to read every day at home. Each child has a log in for Times Table Rock Stars and I encourage all children to practise their times tables at home. Please let me know if you need a copy of your child's log in details.
I look forward to starting the new year with you!
