Foxes Piece School

Early Years

Welcome to Our Reception Class at Foxes Piece!

Starting school is an exciting time, and at Foxes Piece, we make sure that your child feels happy and safe from day one. Our Reception class is where many children begin their learning journey with us, and we prioritize creating an environment that helps them settle in quickly and comfortably.

Encouraging a Love for Learning

Reception is a special year where children start developing a love for learning and gaining important skills they’ll use throughout their school years. Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet each child’s individual needs and reflect the local community they grow up in.

Learning Through Play and Exploration

We believe that children learn best when they are having fun! That’s why we provide lots of opportunities for them to learn through play, with the support of caring and skilled adults. Our approach allows children to explore and learn at their own pace, building their confidence and independence along the way.

A Rich Learning Environment

Children in Reception enjoy an ‘enabling environment’ both indoors and outdoors, including regular Forest School sessions. Our exciting and stimulating learning spaces, filled with enriching resources, help spark curiosity and encourage creative thinking.

Characteristics of effective learning

We allow children to develop lifelong learning skills. In reception, teachers facilitate the ‘characteristics of effective learning’. These are the fundamental skills and attitudes required to help children become lifelong learners, focusing on not just what children need to learn but how they learn it. We focus on helping children build the skills and attitudes they need to be lifelong learners. This goes beyond what they learn—it’s about how they learn. We encourage children to:

  • Try new things and have fun learning.

  • Keep going, even when things get tricky.

  • Explore their own ideas and be creative.

  • Find different ways to solve problems.

  • Connect their learning across different experiences.

These skills set the foundation for children to become independent, capable learners for life!
