Literacy

Literacy

This area involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and begin to write. Children are able to access a wide range of reading materials to ignite their interest. We use Twinkl phonics to learn our sounds throughout EYFS and KS1. The children love learning alongside their favourite characters Kit and Sam.

At Foxes Piece, we want children to enjoy reading and develop a love of books and stories.

Children are able to take books home as often as they wish. They visit the library on a daily basis to choose books to share at home with their families. In the second half of the Autumn term, all children begin to take home decodable books in line with their learning. The children reflect on their phonics learning throughout the week and apply this to their books. Children also take part in daily Guided Reading and have the opportunity to read one to one with their teachers.

Literacy is also developed through sharing stories, interactive whiteboard activities, learning songs and rhymes, using role-play and drama plus a whole range of activities that develop hand-eye coordination.
